How We Work

Every engagement starts the same way: with your customer.

Brand, website, hosting, teaching, or a long partnership — whatever we're doing together, the method underneath never changes. We listen to the people you serve, align what we learn with where you want the business to go, act on it, and teach you everything we learn along the way.
The Premise

Most marketing starts with the business. Ours starts with the people it serves.

It's the difference we build everything on. Before we touch a logo, a website, or a campaign, we go listen — to your customers, in their words. What are they trying to get done? What's in their way? What would better look like to them?

We call it customer-ing, and it's not a warm-up exercise. The voice of your customer is the raw material for every decision that follows. Research before action — every time, in every service. It's how the work ends up fitting the people it's for, instead of fitting our assumptions.

Four moves, every engagement.

The services and business models change. The order of operations doesn't.
01

Listen

Voice of customer, first. Interviews, conversations, reviews, support threads, and the patterns in how people already talk about you. We don't guess what your customers want — we ask them.
02

Align

We turn what we hear into what it means — then match it to where you want the business to go. Findings aligned with your goals, so the work that follows is the right work.
03

Act

Now the work — strategy, brand, website, pricing, campaign, whatever the findings call for. Built on evidence, not assumption, so it lands the first time more often than not.
04

Teach

As we go, we show our work — why we made each call, what we learned, and how to run it yourself. You end every engagement smarter than you started it.
The result is growth. Not pushed from the top, but released from within the business.
Where to begin

This is why we start with the First 90 Days.

Everything above needs a foundation — real listening, real research, a clear read on the people you serve. That's exactly what the First 90 Days builds. It's the method in miniature: ninety days of customer-ing that every service after it stands on.

Marketing is simple — and, misunderstood.

Short pieces that unlearn the noise: influence over convincing, aim over results, your customer over the masses.

Paul made tents.

Part 3 ended on the road — the base, the rooms, the letters, every channel tested by whether it led to more. Strategy that can read like the work of a full-time strategist. A thinker. Next, look at what Paul actually did when he reached Corinth. He arrived alone, found a couple who shared his trade, moved in, and went

Paul never worked a dead end.

Three journeys, three departures — every one from Antioch, not Jerusalem, where it all began. Third of seven: strategy and channels, and the test Paul ran on every city, room, and road — it had to lead somewhere.

Paul always went to the synagogue first.

New city, same first move — Paul walked in and went to the synagogue. It wasn’t a habit; it was the strategy. Second in the series: audience before message, and why the first audience wasn’t an audience at all.

The greatest marketer of all time is Paul.

Yes — the apostle. No budget, no media, no institution behind him — and two thousand years later, advocates still carry the message themselves. To start this series: how a marketer is made.

How AI decides which businesses to recommend.

Chicago traded up to take Trubisky and passed on Mahomes. Everyone had the same information — what separated them was how it got weighed. That’s the job AI is doing when someone asks it who to hire.

Why doesn’t my business show up in ChatGPT?

TMZ once called our landline looking for the famous T.J. Miller. They got me. Right name, wrong person — and that’s usually why AI recommends someone else instead of your business.

The difference between aim and result.

It is impossible to focus on the target and your aim at the same time. A lesson from the front sight of a firearm — and from Walter Payton — on why results-focused marketing misses.

The gift of marketing.

A thoughtful gift beats an envelope of cash because someone knew you. Is your marketing an envelope of cash, or a gift that shows you care?

Guerilla marketing, marketing combinations, marketing ingredients, and synergistic marketing.

Levinson said it plainly: single-weapon marketing is dead — combinations work, and they help each other work. Eighty years of evidence, from the Harvard marketing mix to Guerrilla Marketing, says the same thing.

Be like Apple, or Nike, or — but, not — Starbucks.

The largest companies on earth do not market for the masses. The granular details — values, preferences, beliefs — are your customer. Know them, and your story tells itself.

Getting found is part of the method.

Same four moves. Knowing your customer is what gives you something worth finding.

Search, AI answers, schema, reviews — we do all of it ourselves. We built the tooling our own sites run on, and we stay current on how the answers get made, because that part changes fast.

When someone asks AI for a recommendation, an answer comes back — one name and not another. We work at understanding why, and what it takes to be the name that comes back. Then we do that work.

Tell us about the people you serve.

That's genuinely where we'd love to start — your business, your customers, and what better would look like. We'll tell you honestly where we'd begin.
